Donor Bill of Rights

To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public and that donors have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations they support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

1. To Be Informed

Donors have the right to be informed of the foundation’s mission, the intended use of their donations, and the organization’s ability to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

2. To Know the Organization’s Leadership

Donors have the right to know the identities of those serving on the foundation’s governing board and to expect the board to exercise sound stewardship in managing donations.

​

3. To Have Access to Financial Information

Donors have the right to access the organization’s most recent financial statements and know how their contributions are being spent.

​

4. To Expect Ethical Fundraising Practices

Donors have the right to expect that their gifts will be used for the purposes they were given and that the organization adheres to professional ethical standards in its solicitation and management of funds.

5. To Receive Acknowledgment and Recognition

Donors have the right to receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition, or to remain anonymous if desired.

6. To Have Their Privacy Respected

Donors have the right to expect that their personal information will not be shared or sold and that their privacy will be protected as outlined in the foundation’s privacy policies.

7. To Be Treated with Professionalism and Respect

Donors have the right to be treated with respect and professionalism by all

representatives of the foundation, regardless of the size of their gift.

8. To Have the Opportunity to Ask Questions

Donors have the right to ask questions about their donations and receive prompt, truthful, and straightforward answers.

9. To Be Assured of Transparency and Accountability

Donors have the right to know that the organization follows best practices in governance, financial stewardship, and impact measurement to ensure the responsible use of funds.

10. To Have the Opportunity for Engagement

Donors have the right to be engaged in meaningful ways, including participation in events, updates on impact, and opportunities to offer feedback about their philanthropic experience.

 

This Donor Bill of Rights reflects our commitment to ethical fundraising, transparency, and donor stewardship. We honor and uphold these principles in all our interactions with our supporters.
